LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A 74-year-old man died after crashing into a car and then a building near the Historic Westside in late June, police said.

Las Vegas Metro Police identified the man as George Petre of Las Vegas. On June 28, around 2:18 p.m., he drove a 2012 Nissan Versa. A 78-year-old woman driving a 2003 Nissan Altima was also involved in the crash.

Police said the man drove through private property south of the Altima near Rancho Drive and Washington Avenue. For unknown reasons, investigators said he accelerated through landscape, across a sidewalk, entered the roadway, and hit the Altima’s right rear.

Police said the man continued driving on the north side of the road and crashed into a building at 821 North Rancho.

Medical arrived and transported him to UMC, where he later died. The woman claimed her injuries, police say.

“The Clark County Coroner’s Office determined that the cause of death was directly related to the injuries sustained in the collision,” police said.

This incident marked the 86th traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction for the year 2025. The crash remains under investigation by Las Vegas police.
