LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Summer barbeques and dinners are usually centered around meat; however, it may cost you some more.
FOX5 learned it is certainly costing more for a popular barbeque joint in town.
At John Mulls Road Kill Grill there is endless supply of ribs, burnt ends, chicken, and sausage. But all that meat is costing owner, Chuck Frommer, a lot more because of tariffs.
Frommer gets a lot of his meat from Canada, Brazil and Poland and those meats are sold to major processors in the United States.
“They aren’t really getting hurt, the consumers are getting hurt and the small business owners are getting hurt, which is us,” Frommer said.
Frommer explained to FOX5 how the meat for his burnt ends were ranging from $3 to $4 a pound, but now, they are between $9 to $10 a pound.
When asked if his small business is able to keep up with the high prices, Frommer said it is very “difficult.” This is because all the goods he gets is sold by the pound.
Given the amount of customers he serves a day, he is selling about 3,000 pounds of meat a day which is why he is consistently keeping an eye on the market.
Despite having to pay the high tariffs out of pocket, Frommer tells FOX5 he refuses to offset the costs by raising his prices to customers.
“I’m trying not to raise them until we absolutely have to. Hopefully we don’t have to,” he said.
