LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — On this day in history, The Treasure Island was getting ready to bring buccaneering to the Las Vegas Strip.
A picture shows Steven Wynn and the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, watching the installation of two pirate ships at the front of the property on July 29, 1993. The ships took a starring role in the “Battle of Buccaneer Bay.”
It simulated a full naval battle complete with explosions, pyrotechnics and a sinking pirate ship.
The show ended in 2003, but the “Song Ship” is still used as a venue for weddings.
