LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — In a video posted to X, Congressman Steven Horsford said he paid a visit to the Southern Nevada Detention Center Thursday and was denied entry.
In another video, Horsford is seen standing at the gate of the detention center in Pahrump providing his identity and claimed he was conducting a routine ICE visit.
What are they hiding? You don’t get to slam the door on a Member of Congress during a routine ICE visit. I’ve toured this facility before—so why am I suddenly a “security risk”? My team requested permission. They had no right to deny us. They’re clearly afraid of accountability. pic.twitter.com/UQbQl3ASt5

On X Horsford said, “We’ve received nothing back but delay tactic after delay tactic. Warden John Mattos even called Constitutionally-protected Congressional oversight a “safety risk.””
In the video posted on X, Horsford can be heard speaking with the Warden, listed on the facility’s website as John Mattos. The Warden explained to Horsford that “Immigration and U.S. Marshals,” were contacted but did not grant permission for his visit.
Nye County Sheriff Joe McGill says when he arrived on scene the party cleared out and left the facilities property without incident.
FOX5 has contacted ICE for a comment on the matter, we have not heard back at this time.
