LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — One unlicensed short-term rental in the east Las Vegas Valley has been visited by code enforcement officers 21 times and received $22,000 in fines.
One concerned and frustrated neighbor reports constant problems with large groups, parties, party buses and piles of trash, and provided FOX5 with cell phone videos, photos and various reports to code enforcement.
The large home, located near Desert Inn Rd. and McLeod Drive, had its first visit by Clark County code inspectors after the first complaint in September 2024.
“When we have different people coming, it’s a crap shoot. One weekend it could be a dance team from California, but they’re still over the limit because that was 16 to 18 people. What we had for Electric Daisy Carnival was atrocious,” said Salem Ayoob, who recently went before the Clark County Commission to voice his concerns.
Clark County officials sent FOX5 the following statement:
In a search of short-term rental listings on platforms in the neighborhood, a five-bedroom home in that area has a listing for around $1,200 to $1,400 people a night and up to 16 guests.
Clark County mandates a limit of 10 guests allowed (with two guests per bedroom) in a licensed short-term rental.
FOX5 told you, this spring, how the county planned new enforcement tactics to stop illegal listings and stays. A vendor has now been hired to implement technology to screen listings for licenses and code compliance, a county official said.
Ayoob argues that the property owner needs harsher penalties and tougher enforcement.
“If the citations outweigh the money that’s coming in, then obviously anybody would cease and stop. Lack of enforcement and lack of frequency on citations and amount of citations has led the owner of the property to basically flaunt their nose and just keep going full steam ahead,” Ayoob said.
FOX5 asked the county about the next steps for enforcement.
The property appears to be tied to a trust, according to records from the Clark County Assessor’s page.
