Woman indicted in death of French bulldog left in outdoors kennel in Las Vegas heat

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Olivia Underwood was indicted Wednesday on charges related to the death of a French bulldog named Jazzy.

According to the indictment, “Olivia Viola Underwood did willfully, unlawfully, maliciously, and feloniously torture or unjustifiably maim, mutilate or kill an animal kept for companionship or pleasure.”

Investigators said Underwood placed Jazzy in a kennel outdoors before leaving for work. When she arrived home approximately 12 hours later, she “went inside and went to sleep” without checking on the bulldog.

Neighbors saw Jazzy, who “appeared to be dying,” and entered the backyard to check on the dog. After what the neighbors observed as a “heat-induced seizure,” they attempted to perform CPR, but Jazzy was no longer breathing.

Underwood told police that she woke up around 1 p.m. after hearing the neighbors. After seeing Jazzy dead, witnesses told police that she “became hysterical” and told everyone to get out of her backyard.

Detectives noted that Underwood had two previous visits from animal protection services in 2014 and 2016. Officials said Underwood brought Jazzy to a veterinarian in 2024 but refused all medical care and left.
