LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — An 8- and 10-year-old were shot and killed in a Minneapolis Catholic school shooting Wednesday, police said.
According to Police Chief Brian O’Hara, 17 others were injured, including 14 children. Two of the injured are in critical condition.
Officials said a gunman used a rifle to fire through a church window at Annunciation Catholic School during a mass worship service. The city government says the gunman was “contained” and there is no longer an active threat.

As the investigation continues in Minneapolis, the Las Vegas Valley feels the ripples of the shooting at home.
The Archdiocese of Las Vegas said its “thoughts and prayers” are with the Annunciation Church and School community.
“The Archdiocese of Las Vegas and Department of Catholic Schools are monitoring reports of the tragic situation at Annunciation Catholic Church and School in Minneapolis this morning. Our Office of Security is in communication with Law Enforcement and monitoring developments as they unfold. The safety of our students and our school communities remains our primary concern.”
Congresswoman Dina Titus said the shooting is “another senseless tragedy.”
“My thoughts are with the Annunciation Catholic School community in Minneapolis,” said the representative for Nevada’s first district. “I will keep pushing for common sense gun regulation in Congress.”
Nevada U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen thanked the first responders on the scene, and says more must be done to prevent further mass shootings.
“My heart is shattered by the devastating news of yet another school shooting, this time targeting a Catholic school in Minneapolis. All those affected by this horrific act of violence are in my thoughts, and I’m grateful to the first responders on the scene,“ she said. ”We must do more to prevent horrific mass shootings like this one. We cannot keep living like this. Children deserve to go to school without fearing for their lives.”
Nevada attorney general Aaron Ford says no parent should fear sending their child to learn or worship, “I’m praying for every parent, every student, every teacher. May we find the courage to turn our grief into action.”
President Donald Trump has ordered flags to fly at half-staff Wednesday through Sunday due to the shooting.
