LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — For a third day, state services have been interrupted in Nevada due to a cyberattack, according to a release from the governor’s office.
On Tuesday, DMV officials said offices would remain closed “until further notice,” with all canceled appointments to be honored as walk-ups during the two-week period following reopening. However, officials provided no guidance on when that reopening might occur.
Officials from the governor’s office said the outage began Sunday morning when the state was targeted in a cyberattack. Federal officials are assisting with the active criminal investigation.
“The state is focused on restoring services safely and validating systems before returning them to normal operation,” the release said.
The release stated that state offices would begin offering in-person services “later this week,” while websites and phone lines would be “intermittently unavailable.” Officials noted that emergency services remain available statewide.
The release noted that payroll would not be impacted by the outage, and state employees would still receive their payments on time.
A post on social media from the Nevada DMV told people with expired registrations and driver’s licenses who worry about being stopped by police that officials are working with law enforcement agencies to “provide appropriate consideration during this period.”
According to a release from Governor Joe Lombardo’s office, a live update will be provided on the state’s response to the cyber attack. That news conference will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
