LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Five people were transported to the hospital along with a firefighter after a fire near the Las Vegas airport Tuesday morning.
FOX5 cameras captured smoke in the air around 11 a.m. at the Sonterra Apartments, near Maryland Parkway and Tropicana Avenue.
When Clark County Fire crews arrived, crews said two buildings were on fire. A second alarm was called for support. Victims were removed from the burning units.
According to Deputy Fire Chief Kenny Holding, 31 out of 32 units were occupied. Animal Control also responded as several animals were saved, but CCFD did not have the animals’ immediate conditions.
CCFD said five victims were transported to Sunrise Hospital. Three have been evaluated and released on the scene. A Clark County firefighter was also taken to UMC for heat exhaustion.
About 40 people have been displaced, according to officials. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
