LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — FOX5 learned the 9-year-old boy who was injured in a DUI crash last weekend is improving in the hospital.

A source close to the family told FOX5 the boy is now out of sedation and had his breathing tubes removed. He’s still recovering from a broken leg and a concussion after the crash Saturday near Blue Diamond Road and Las Vegas Boulevard.

His mother was 28 weeks pregnant and police say she lost her unborn baby in the crash.

FOX5 learned she’s also conscious and is expected to recover.

The suspect in the crash was identified as 27-year-old Maximiliano Chavez. He’s facing several charges including three felony counts of reckless driving, and three felony counts of driving under the influence one of which resulted in death.
