LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Mesquite police arrested a man in what they described as a “major” drug trafficking case Monday.
The Mesquite Police Department said an officer became suspicious during a traffic stop on northbound I-15. After pulling over a black GMC pickup truck, police said the officer noticed “indicators of possible drug-related activity.” The officer brought a K-9 to the truck, which alerted the officer to the smell of illegal narcotics.
During a search of the truck, officers said they discovered a concealed trapdoor built into the bottom of the fuel tank. Inside, they found 45 bags of crystal meth weighing about 90 pounds and worth approximately $530,000.
Mesquite police said driver Marco Antonio Diaz of Colorado was arrested and taken to the Clark County Detention Center. He’s charged with one felony count of trafficking a controlled substance.
“90 pounds of methamphetamine represents countless lives that this poison could have harmed,” said Tracy Fails, Mesquite interim police chief. “Our department remains committed to safeguarding the citizens of Mesquite and the surrounding areas from the dangers of drug trafficking.”
