LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — New regulations could add hundreds of dollars in fees for septic tanks in Clark County and the Southern Nevada Health District wants to hear from you on the proposal.
SNHD is holding public forums to discuss the proposal and get feedback.
The health district wants to issue operating permits at five-year intervals for all septic systems, and proposes an operating permit fee. That means thousands of homeowners could face a 226-dollar fee for those five-year permits.
Officials say the new system would help them be more proactive in addressing issues.
Many who opposed the new regulations say the new rules would create a financial burden.
“The recurring permit would allow us to review septic systems on a recurring schedule rather than reactively when a complaint, tenant improvement application or loan certification requests are received,” a health district official said at the public hearing.
“So operating permits and regulations that are written with the full knowledge that many people are unable to comply with, that will require costly, unguaranteed waiver applications requiring information not easily obtained, you’re setting property owners up for failure and extreme financial hardship,” one Clark County resident said.
The public comment period ends October 3 with more public workshops planned across Southern Nevada.
