Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill has officially announced his bid for re-election, seeking a second term as the county’s top law enforcement officer.

A Proven Record in Public Safety

Since taking office in 2023, Sheriff McMahill has delivered on his promises, highlighting a 22.7% decrease in homicides in the last year alone. He emphasizes that these aren’t just statistics, but “real lives that we’re talking about.” He attributes the success to the unwavering dedication of the men and women of Metro, who work tirelessly every day to ensure the safety of the valley.

“We hire some really unbelievable people that show day in and day out how much they care for this community. You’ve got to remember we raise our children here as well. We grow our families here. Las Vegas is a place that we love,” McMahill shares.

Leading the Way with Technology

A key pillar of Sheriff McMahill’s leadership has been his commitment to making Metro the most technologically advanced department in the country. Under his guidance, the department has rolled out high-tech equipment designed to protect officers and enhance crime-solving capabilities.

Technology includes:

  • 38 Drones to be deployed across the city, including a “drone as a first responder” program.
  • A new fleet of 10 Tesla Cybertrucks, serving as both a visible deterrent and a recruitment tool, entirely funded by donations.
  • Advanced license plate readers and gunshot detection systems

McMahill says these technological advancements are designed to “allow us to see things before we had to be standing in front of a suspect with a gun.” The Cybertrucks, while distinctive, are aimed at attracting a new generation of officers who are adept at utilizing technology.

A Learning Organization Focused on Community

With over 30 years in the department and one term as Sheriff, McMahill acknowledges that there is always more to learn and achieve. He reflects on his first term, stating, “I always knew that the level of dedication of the men and women of Metro to get it right was very, very high. But what has surprised me so much is that when they feel valued, they know that this community cares about them, that their police leaders care about them, they will literally move a mountain for you when you ask them to do it.”

McMahill was first elected in 2022 to succeed former Sheriff and now Governor Joe Lombardo. He has been with the department for more than 30 years.
