RTC offers free transit rides for veterans and active military on Veterans Day

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — In observance of Veterans Day on Tuesday, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) is providing free transit rides to all veterans and active military members.

According to a press release, in order to take advantage of this offer, individuals need to present their military or veteran identification card when boarding any RTC transit vehicle. All routes will operate on regular weekday schedules.

“We respect and value each of our nation’s brave military members and are proud to honor them in a small way,” said MJ Maynard-Carey, RTC CEO. “Thank you to all active and retired military. Your dedication, service, and sacrifice to our nation deserve recognition and appreciation every day, but especially on this special day.”

Attend the Veterans Day Parade

Veterans and active-duty service members can utilize these complimentary rides to attend the annual Veterans Day Parade in downtown Las Vegas.

The event commences at 10 a.m. and concludes at noon, proceeding along Fourth Street between Gass Avenue and Stewart Avenue. The parade route is conveniently located approximately a quarter-mile from the Bonneville Transit Center.

Attendees can access the parade via any of the following 15 RTC routes:

  • Route 105 (Martin L. King)
  • Route 106 (Rancho/Centennial Hills)
  • Route 108 (Paradise)
  • Route 109 (Maryland Pkwy.)
  • Route 113 (Las Vegas Blvd. North)
  • Route 206 (Charleston)
  • Route 207 (Alta/Stewart)
  • Route 208 (Washington)
  • Route 214 (H Street/D Street)
  • Route 215 (Bonanza)
  • Route 401 (N. Outlets/Symphony Park)
  • Boulder Highway Express (BHX)
  • Centennial Express (CX)
  • Downtown & Veterans Medical Center Express (DVX)
  • Deuce on the Strip

Due to upcoming special events, some routes may experience delays and bus stop closures. The RTC advises passengers to allow for extra travel time. RTC says they will post the latest information on route detours and bus stop closures.

Year-Round Transportation Programs for Veterans

Beyond free rides on Veterans Day, the RTC is committed to supporting veterans and active military members in Southern Nevada with a variety of year-round transportation programs, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to the community.

  • Veterans & Active Duty Reduced Fare Program: This program offers U.S. Armed Force veterans and active military a 50% discount on regular transit fares. Eligible riders must obtain an RTC Veterans ID Card.
  • Veterans Medical Transportation Network (VMTN): VMTN provides appointment-only, door-to-door transportation at no cost for veterans and their dependents to and from medical appointments. Registration is required.
  • Downtown & Veterans Medical Center Express (DVX): The DVX route offers direct transit access from the RTC’s Bonneville Transit Center to the North Las Vegas Veterans Administration (VA) Medical Center. Additional RTC routes also serve other federal medical facilities, including the O’Callaghan Military Medical Center and various VA primary care clinics.
