Two rescued at Red Rock Canyon after getting stuck canyoneering

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Two people were rescued at Red Rock Canyon after getting stuck canyoneering, officials say.

Officials with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search & Rescue team said two people were rescued with a hoist Friday morning at First Creek.

According to a social media post, LVMPD learned two people were canyoneering in the area by a friend of the hikers who was out of state. The hikers did not return by their expected time, midnight.

LVMPD’s first attempt to contact them was unsuccessful until the search and rescue team was able to text one person from the pair. Police learned they planned to run the canyon, “Old Bill.”

Police said the hikers’ ropes were stuck, and they were not able to return by themselves.

Search and rescue responded by air, and the hikers were rescued with a hoist. No injuries were reported. The two were transported back to their vehicles by the search and rescue sergeant and lieutenant.
