LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Businesses in the Arts District are preparing for Small Business Saturday, placing promotional signs outside their doors as the holiday shopping event approaches.
Anna Bralver opened her shop, Old School Vintage, three weeks ago in the Arts District after considering locations in Summerlin and Henderson.
“This will probably be one of the most amazing, incredible vintage districts, probably in the world,” Bralver said.
The Arts District began as 18 blocks and has grown to include more than 200 small businesses.
Local ownership drives economic impact
Becky Miller, president of the Las Vegas Arts District Association, said all businesses in the area are locally owned.
“It will help our economy immensely, and when you help keep small businesses alive in Las Vegas, you help protect your job as well,” Miller said.
The City of Las Vegas is encouraging shoppers to buy local by offering free on-street parking for the entire day while businesses reduce prices.
Customer Athena Shlien said shopping local is important to her because the items are unique and not mass-produced in factories.
Economic benefits of local spending
Experts estimate that for every $100 spent locally, $68 stays in the community.
“When people shop here, they are not only supporting this community, they are supporting the conservation of beautiful articles from the past,” Bralver said.
Shoppers who buy local on Small Business Saturday can collect stamps for prizes as part of a promotional program in the Arts District.
