LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Search and rescue teams saved a hiker who broke his leg while hiking Lone Mountain this past weekend.

Around 1 p.m. on Saturday, a Las Vegas Metro Search and Rescue team was deployed to the rescue area aboard AIR1, according to social media post about the incident. The team was informed that a hiker slipped and fell near the summit of the mountain and broke his leg.

Crews with Las Vegas Fire and Rescue found the hiker first after hiking up the trail and called in AIR1 for airlift due to the hiker’s injury. He was also given pain medication and minor treatment at the scene before the helicopter arrived.

Two members of the crew were able to rappel to the scene to remove the hiker and brought him to a nearby parking lot where care was passed to a ground ambulance. The hiker was then taken to a nearby hospital.

The SAR team said in a social media post about the rescue that they average several rescues every year on Lone Mountain and urge future hikers to be cautious.
