LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Construction is continuing on the Athletics’ future ballpark on the Las Vegas Strip, a project targeted to open for the 2028 season, and officials on Tuesday provided a unique look at the landmark now under construction.
Work has progressed to the point that the stadium has “gone vertical,” with above-ground framework now visible, including the installation of walls and beams and the pouring of concrete.
As construction moves forward, the team recently unveiled a “Ballpark Experience Center” located at The UnCommons in southwest Las Vegas. The space features a full model of the ballpark along with exhibits and memorabilia related to the project. The experience center is open by appointment only and is intended to give the public an early look at the stadium and its role in the city.
The stadium is part of a larger development planned for a site covering more than 26 acres. The nine-acre ballpark is the top priority within a multi-phase project that also includes a new Bally’s resort. The first phase calls for construction of the stadium, a parking garage, retail space, and areas designated for bars and restaurants. Phase two includes a primary hotel tower with 1,800 rooms and a pool deck. Phase three adds a 3,000-seat concert venue, and phase four includes a second hotel tower with 1,200 rooms. Plans also show three casinos, more than 153,000 square feet of retail, entertainment, and dining space, and more than 5,000 parking spaces.
Steve Hill, president of the Las Vegas Visitors and Convention Authority, said he views the stadium as a catalyst for development in the surrounding area.
While the stadium is under construction, the A’s plan to play six games in June next year at Las Vegas Ballpark, home of their Triple-A affiliate, the Aviators.
