LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A dirt bike with 25 years of sentimental value was stolen from a truck bed outside a local aftermarket auto parts manufacturer last week, and the entire theft was captured on security cameras from multiple angles.
Ryder Andersen said his first dirt bike was taken from his truck in the parking lot of Pacific Performance Engineering, near I-15 and East Gowan Road, around 1:30 p.m. last week. The bike was purchased by his father 25 years ago.
“It’s a little hurtful especially because the bike was so sentimental to me,” Andersen said.
Theft captured on multiple cameras
Security footage shows two thieves removing the dirt bike from Andersen’s truck bed while a third person waited in a small black car as a getaway driver. The theft took approximately 60 seconds.
“I guess I just didn’t think that somebody would have the boldness to park right outside here and rip it out in broad daylight,” Andersen said.
Two employees narrowly missed witnessing the theft, walking into the building just as the thieves were getting the bike loose from the truck.
Andersen was leaving for lunch in a friend’s truck when they passed the thieves’ small black car as it was about to park outside the business.
Thieves struggled during theft
The security video shows one thief tumbling during the theft when the bike tipped over.
“They ended up tipping it over and fell into the bush there and the bike landed right on him,” Andersen said. “That was the only good part of the whole thing.”
The thieves eventually loaded the dirt bike into their small black car and drove away.
Sentimental value spans more than two decades
Andersen said the bike holds special memories from his childhood in Southern California, where he would ride at a local track and around their neighborhood.
“I remember as a little kid, we used to live in SoCal. And there was a track we’d go to that I would get to ride, either one of the two bikes that we had at the time. And other than that, it was just around the neighborhood and putting around and having a good time,” Andersen said.
His father was also upset by the theft.
“He was even more devastated than I was. He’s had more years to kind of grow with it. I mean, having something for 25 years, no matter what it is, you grow attached to it, for sure. You build a bond with it, especially when you’re putting in work and sweat and tears,” Andersen said.
Andersen said someone contacted him claiming to have seen the dirt bike for sale on Facebook Marketplace for a low price.
“And I guess this is a good lesson to, you know, also somebody else out there that if you’re keeping stuff out, you better have it bolted down or locked up because, you know, it will get taken,” Andersen said.
Andersen filed a police report. The small black car has damage on the back door of the driver’s side. It looked like the window had been taped up. Andersen hopes anyone with information will call police.
