LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada will operate transit service on a Saturday schedule for Monday, Jan. 19, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Transit detours in downtown Las Vegas will be in effect from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. due to road closures for the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade. Riders are encouraged to visit the RTC website for the most up-to-date detour information.

The parade begins at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at Fourth Street and Gass Avenue in downtown Las Vegas and travels north on Fourth Street, concluding at Ogden Avenue.

Road closures

Road closures will include Fourth Street from Charleston Boulevard to Stewart Avenue, and Third Street from Garces Avenue to Coolidge Avenue, as well as all side streets.

Parade theme

This year’s parade theme, “Living the Dream: Justice in the Journey. Hope in the Hardship,” honors the fight for civil rights and celebrates the legacy and accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

RTC will participate in the parade under the theme, “Together We Ride,” symbolizing unity, mobility, and community connection. The theme highlights how transportation brings people together and supports every walk of life across Southern Nevada.

“Creating opportunities for accessible connection across Southern Nevada is at the core of everything we do at RTC,” said RTC CEO M.J. Maynard-Carey. “We are honored to reflect on Dr. King’s legacy, continue his mission and celebrate safe and accessible transportation options for all Southern Nevadans.”

To avoid traffic and parking fees downtown, riders are encouraged to plan their transit trips using the free rideRTC app.
