LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Tech Alley Vegas has moved its monthly startup and entrepreneur meetups to a new Arts District location after parking costs at its previous venue made events less accessible.
The local nonprofit, which has hosted free monthly meetups since May 2021, relocated from Main Street to Third Street while remaining in the Arts District. The organization attracts more than 200 people to its average event, and was once situated next to a free parking lot.
Joshua Leavitt, founder of Tech Alley, said parking increases at the previous location forced the decision to relocate.
Tech Alley has had three core principles since 2021: accessibility, inclusivity and consistency.
“The lot that was there went pay to park, and a lot of the street signs were getting ready for pay to park, and unfortunately, that broke one of our principles, accessibility,” Leavitt said. “Now, if people have to start paying for parking, it’s no longer accessible.”
New venue offers expanded parking options
The new Third Street location provides 50 free parking spaces underneath the building for patrons. On Saturdays, when Tech Alley hosts its events, free on-street parking is also available along the building.
“Not only is there free parking right outside of this new location, but there are also all of these 50 free parking spaces right underneath the building for all patrons, so it’s easy and accessible,” Leavitt said.
Daz Weller, CEO of Third Street, said he received the keys to the location a few weeks ago and immediately wanted Tech Alley as his first organization. The venue includes a 150-seat restaurant, 400-person event space, eight cinemas, and plans for two theaters seating 250 and 150 people.
Weller told FOX5 News he envisions the old theatre, now Third Street location as an arts and media incubator space. He hopes to double in capacity, hosting community and local organization.
“When this place is humming, I envision that it will have an opera going on, a play in a separate theatre, a live gig down the hall, and a wedding upstairs, with people on the ground floor having a coffee or drink,” Weller said.
Tech Alley will host its next meetup on February 21 in the Arts District.
