LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Oakland Athletics announced a seven-year contract extension with shortstop Jacob Wilson.
According to a release, on Monday, the team will cement the player’s future with the franchise as it prepares to open a new ballpark in Las Vegas. The A’s will hold a press conference with Wilson at 2 p.m. at their Experience Center in Las Vegas to unveil the deal.
Wilson is one of four core players under contract through at least the 2028 season, when the A’s are scheduled to open their new stadium, said officials.
Athletics officials say Wilson joins outfielder Lawrence Butler, who signed a seven-year deal through 2031 with a club option for 2032. Also, designated hitter Brent Rooker signed a five-year contract through 2029 with a club option for 2030. Lastly, catcher Tyler Soderstrom, who inked a seven-year contract through 2032 with a club option for 2033.
The contract extensions signal the organization’s commitment to building ahead of the franchise’s historic move to Las Vegas from Oakland after more than 50 years in California.
