LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Clark County commissioners are taking the next step in building a supplemental animal shelter after voting on it Tuesday.

At their meeting, commissioners agreed to start the design process with an architecture firm. The shelter will be built near Tropicana and the 215 beltway.

The county says it will be 45,000 square feet with enough room for about 650 animals. Leaders hope to have it open in August 2028.

The decision comes as The Animal Foundation grapples with overcrowding.
