LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A man died early Friday morning after a fist fight escalated into a stabbing in downtown Las Vegas, police said.
Two men arrived separately at area hospitals around 3 a.m., both suffering from sharp force injuries, according to Lt. Monique Rodriguez with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.
One man succumbed to his injuries and was died at the hospital, while the other man is in stable condition, police say.
The stabbing occurred in the area of Stewart Avenue and Third Street after the two men got into a fist fight that escalated, Rodriguez said during a Friday morning briefing.
A Metro officer working late spotted a vehicle driving erratically with blood on the side near police headquarters, Rodriguez said. The officer followed the vehicle, which went to a hospital.
Around the same time, another hospital called to report a walk-in patient with sharp force injuries, and investigators determined the two incidents were related.
The man who died had been driven to the hospital by someone else and suffered multiple stab wounds, Rodriguez said.
The altercation began with “disrespectful words exchanged” between the two men, which escalated into a fist fight and then a stabbing, Rodriguez said.
The incident occurred in a public area, and witnesses are being interviewed by detectives.
“If anyone happened to see anything, please give us a call,” Rodriguez said. “If you want to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers.”
The LVMPD Homicide Unit is investigating. No arrests have been announced.
