LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Las Vegas Raiders have officially hired Klint Kubiak as their new head coach, signaling a new era for the franchise as it looks to return to winning ways.
Kubiak and his family arrived in Las Vegas on Monday and were greeted by General Manager John Spytek.
The Raiders will hold an introductory news conference with Kubiak on Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 11 a.m. The finalization of the coaching staff and the roster evaluation will begin immediately.
The hire comes on the heels of Kubiak’s role as offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks, who won Super Bowl LIX on Sunday. The 39-year-old coach will bring offensive expertise to a Raiders organization that finished 3-14 last season, the worst record in the NFL.
Building Around Young Talent
The Raiders’ rebuild centers on youth and potential. Las Vegas holds the No. 1 overall pick in the April NFL Draft and is expected to select Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza.
The organization also features tight end Brock Bowers and running back Ashton Jeanty, talented young pieces that Kubiak will work to develop.
Kubiak will collaborate with Spytek and minority owner Tom Brady to address roster needs across both offense and defense. The Raiders possess approximately $90 million in salary cap space for free agency and multiple draft picks to use for roster construction.
A Franchise in Transition
The Raiders have reached the playoffs only twice in the last 23 seasons. The organization hopes Kubiak’s offensive acumen will spark an immediate turnaround while developing Mendoza’s transition from college to professional football.
What’s Next
The combine begins in two weeks, with free agency opening just over a month away. The next several weeks will prove critical as the organization attempts to revamp its roster and establish a foundation for sustained success.
