LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Administrators for the Clark County School District released a video sharing optimism that they can place “most, if not all” of the 1,200 workers whose positions were cut due to budgets.

FOX5 has heard from teachers, staff, school organization team members and the PTA on lingering concerns, possible scenarios and decisions playing out across the District: after cuts, how many positions will be left?

“While schools were creating next year’s budgets, they had to reduce about 1,200 positions,” said Roanne Triana, CCSD’s chief of human resources on the video posted on X.

“We’re going to do everything that we can to place these employees in new positions, which most likely will be at different locations. And we’re confident that we’re going to be able to place most, if not all of them,” Triana said.

“We’re hoping that all of the folks who have unfortunately lost their position will be placed into another job within CCSD,” said Kirsten Searer, chief communications and community engagement officer.

According to a letter sent to all employees, these are the number of employees currently identified for “surplus” in the 2026-2027 school year.

  • 682 licensed positions: Teachers, counselors, etc.
  • 500 support staff positions: custodians, security guards, bus drivers, etc.
  • 64 administrative positions: Principals, student success coordinators

The memo states the following vacancies in the 2025-2026 school year:

  • 284 licensed positions
  • 281 support staff positions
  • 30 administrative positions

Employees identified for surplus are eligible to apply for available positions for which they are qualified, in accordance with established District processes and contractual agreements,” a memo states.

The video references the 3,347 retirements and separations within the 2024-2025 school year, paving the way for positions for those who are identified for surplus.

Not all workers share the same optimism. One anonymous social worker whose position has been cut tells FOX5, there are no positions posted for social workers across the District right now– and she’s already learned several of her peers will soon lose positions. She tells FOX5, the District cut numerous social worker positions last year.

Thurman White Middle School teacher Christina Radosevich shared her optimism. She tells FOX5 Wednesday, after her social studies position was cut, she now has prospects and interviews– but worries some will be left behind.

“If all the schools are cutting and no one’s adding, like, where are we all going to go?” Radosevich said to FOX5 last week.

There are plenty of variables, according to teachers, staff, School Organization Team members, and the PTA: schools are choosing to or may cut vacancies to balance the budget; some staff members who announced retirements are also having their positions eliminated next year. There’s also no word on how many total workers will retire or leave this year.

Jessica Kovacs shared insight with FOX5, after learning many of her friends who are teachers are facing position cuts: even if a position is vacant, a teacher may or may not have a license for the opening.

“Their license is only good for certain subjects… how are they going to find those teachers positions?” she said to FOX5 in a message, noting cuts among high school social studies teachers as an example.

A memo from this week informs impacted workers of resources to help them through the process, and states:

To ensure our people remain at the center of this work, Human Resources has developed a coordinated communication approach, including an Infographic Timeline, Licensed Employee FAQ, and Support Professional FAQ to promote consistent messaging, reduce misinformation, and provide ongoing updates so employees feel informed, supported, and connected to available resources throughout the process. Individuals identified for surplus will receive emails this week.
