RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – The Sierra Avalanche Center has issued an avalanche warning.
The warning focuses on the central Sierra Nevada Mountains between Yuba Pass on the north and Ebbetts Pass on south and includes the greater Lake Tahoe area. It does not include ski areas or highways where avalanche mitigation programs exist.
They say high avalanche danger exists in the backcountry, and that large avalanches are expected across backcountry terrain.
The warning was issued at 5:00 a.m. Tuesday and is due to expire at 5:00 a.m. on Thursday.
Traveling in, near, or below backcountry avalanche terrain is not recommended.
