LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A Las Vegas homeowner says he cannot drive his race cars and trailer in or out of his driveway after a road construction project left his driveway too steep to use.
Vinny Raucci, who lives near Robindale and Valley View, said the construction project removed part of his driveways and rebuilt them with slopes that prevent him from getting his vehicles out of his backyard.
“I can’t get that down the driveway because it’s too sloped,” Raucci said about his racecar trailer. “It will bottom out, it’s too long.”
The homeowner said he and his son race cars as a hobby and store the vehicles in garages behind gates on his property.

County working on solution
Clark County Commission Chairman Michael Naft said while the county works with permitting projects, a developer did the work. FOX5 reached out to the developer but hasn’t heard back. Even so Commissioner Naft said the county would be working with Raucci to find a solution through Public Works and the permitting processes.
“I’m confident we’re going to figure something out,” Naft said.
Raucci said public works officials told him to give them a couple of weeks to work out options.
However, the situation is complicated by permitting issues. Naft said gates in Raucci’s backyard and the driveways on Raucci’s property do not have permits.
Permitting questions arise
When asked about the unpermitted structures, Raucci said he thought they would be grandfathered in since the house has been there since the 1970s. He bought the property about nine years ago.
Naft said just because someone buys a property where things are done illegally doesn’t make them legal because of a new owner.
The commissioner noted that other access points exist on the property, though the steep driveways remain the primary issue for Raucci’s racing equipment.
Developer involvement unclear
Naft said the construction project was carried out by a developer. Attempts to reach the developer for comment were unsuccessful.
Raucci said the developer told him they would “put back what we take out” when they removed portions of the original driveways. However, the rebuilt driveways have much steeper slopes than before.
Raucci said he would be willing to fix the driveways himself, by taking the out and putting down dirt.
