LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A 60-year-old Las Vegas man was arrested Saturday after ramming two police vehicles with a U-Haul truck during a traffic stop, injuring three officers, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.

According to an arrest report obtained by FOX5, Jerry Joe Fields was taken into custody at approximately 3:41 a.m. on Feb. 16, 2026, following an incident that began as a routine traffic stop around 9:18 p.m. the previous night.

Officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department were conducting patrols in the area of Flamingo and Palos Verdes when they observed a U-Haul box truck bearing Nevada plates pulling a trailer. According to the report, officers found that the truck had license plates that did not match its registration.

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver reportedly fled northbound on Palos Verdes. During the chase, officers observed the passenger throw a black bag out the window before the vehicle entered a housing complex.

The chase ended at the intersection of Torsby and Fredrica, near Flamingo, where the U-Haul struck a parked Dodge Charger before continuing to a dead-end street. As the officers exited their vehicles to approach, they observed Fields reversed the U-Haul with trailer attached, colliding with both patrol vehicles.

According to the report, the crash pushed one officer’s vehicle approximately 15 yards back. Two officers who remained in their vehicle during crash reported knee injuries, and were transported to University Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

After the collision, Fields and the passenger attempted to escape police by climbing over a nearby fence. The report notes that officers were able to capture and arrest Fields, but the passenger fled the area and remains out of custody.

K-9 officers later located the bag thrown from the vehicle, which contained a black Glock 21, .45 caliber handgun with an empty chamber and 12 cartridges in the magazine, according to the report.

Investigators noted that a records check revealed Fields is a convicted felon with multiple prior convictions dating back to 1994, including conspiracy to sell controlled substances, grand larceny, possession of stolen vehicle and burglary.

Fields was booked into Clark County Detention Center on multiple charges including assault on protected person with deadly weapon, battery with use of deadly weapon on first responder, own/possess gun by prohibited person, resist public officer and duty upon damaging unattended vehicle/property.

An investigation into the incident remains ongoing. Fields is expected to face a judge on Tuesday, Feb. 19.
