LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A Las Vegas man died Wednesday evening following a single-vehicle crash on US Highway 50 in rural Nevada, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 6:39 p.m. on Feb. 25 near mile marker 28 in Lander County, about four miles east of Austin and one mile east of Austin Summit.
Incident Details
Troopers responding to the scene determined that a blue Freightliner commercial motor vehicle, operating as a “bobtail tractor” without an attached trailer, was traveling eastbound on US50 when the driver failed to negotiate a right-hand curve.
The vehicle crossed the centerline into the westbound lane before leaving the roadway and striking a road sign. The Freightliner then overturned, coming to rest on its right side facing southwest on the left dirt shoulder of the highway.
Victim Identified
The driver, 48-year-old Kelly Arthur Brinkerhoff of Las Vegas, Nevada, sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sources tell FOX5 Brinkerhoff was a firefighter/engineer for Las Vegas Fire and Rescue.
Investigation Ongoing
The Nevada Highway Patrol is conducting a preliminary investigation into the cause of the crash. No additional details have been released at this time.
