LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A 10-year-old Las Vegas boy has won a gold medal at the Taekwondo U.S. Open Championship, taking first place in his division in forms for the second consecutive year.

Nicholas Park earned his black belt at OneTop Center after three years of training and said the back-to-back title is a sign of his continued progress.

“It feels very happy and it’s telling me that I got better and to push me further,” Nicholas said. “It helps me know better that I’m getting better since the day I started.”

Goals extend beyond the podium

Nicholas said he plans to continue training at the same level despite the win, crediting his peers for keeping him motivated.

“I will continue to practice hard and the motivation from my friends will be able to push me more,” he said.

Looking ahead, Nicholas said one of his goals is to reach freestyle Poomsae and win the World Championships one day.

His long-term goals include becoming a master in the sport and opening his own taekwondo school in Las Vegas. He is already preparing for upcoming tournaments in California later this year.
