LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Search-and-rescue personnel aboard AIR3 conducted a rescue Monday night after two people became stranded on a narrow ledge in the Valley of Fire.
The incident was reported on March 23 around 9 p.m. State park rangers requested help because technical rope access was needed as two people were scrambling on rock features near the Atlatl Rock parking area, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue said.
AIR3 responded and inserted SAR personnel at the top of the rock feature. Two SAR officers set up a rope rescue system, reached the stranded individuals, secured them, and helped extract them from the ledge, estimated to be about 4 feet wide, according to Las Vegas Search and Rescue.
AIR3 then extracted the two individuals and the SAR officers using a one-skid landing, flew them to a nearby landing area, and transferred them to ground personnel, Las Vegas Search and Rescue said. No injuries were immediately reported.
Las Vegas Search and Rescue said the rescue was the second air rescue operation that day and noted crews have handled multiple rescue operations nearly every day over the past two weeks, with some days involving more than one call.
