LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A political newcomer running for Henderson mayor said he wants to bring nuclear micro-reactors to the city and work with federal immigration enforcement if elected.
Andrew Ramirez, who moved to Henderson from California four years ago, said he supports President Trump’s policies and would direct the Henderson Police Department to work with ICE.
“Back to boys in blue, no matter if it’s the Henderson PD or ICE,” Ramirez said.
Ramirez said he decided to run for mayor after speaking with the current mayor of Boulder City about energy costs. He said he has taken 27 classes on Hillsdale.edu and attended a private Christian college.
Energy proposal
The candidate said he wants Henderson to own micro reactors that could lower energy costs to 4 cents per kilowatt hour. He said his summer electricity bills run $500 to $600.
“If we can get it down to 4 cents a kilowatt hour, that definitely helps families in Henderson,” Ramirez said.
He said the city could sell excess energy back to NV Energy and use the revenue for infrastructure, teachers and police.
Ramirez said the reactors could be placed in the desert on the back of trucks. He said they are safe because they are used on submarines.
Crime and police support
Ramirez said Henderson has dropped from the second safest large city in America to fourth under the current mayor.
“You almost kind of need a Bukele-style mayor to just go in there and be tough on crime,” Ramirez said.
He said he wants to attract businesses like Haas Automotive to reduce Henderson’s reliance on Las Vegas for jobs.
Other positions
Ramirez said he opposes the Boulder Highway road diet project, which reduces lanes to make the street more bike and pedestrian friendly. He suggested working with Elon Musk’s Boring Company to build roads underneath Henderson instead.
He said he would support more charter schools and cut red tape for contractors to address housing affordability.
Ramirez works 40 hours a week at Dillard’s in Henderson. He previously appeared on the TV show Wipeout and played a role on NCIS.
He said if he does not win, he might run for mayor of Las Vegas.
