LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A local nonprofit teamed up with MGM Resorts to give students a new pair of shoes.

Shoes That Fit stopped by Deskin Elementary today to give more than 400 students a brand-new pair of athletic shoes paid for by the MGM Foundation.

“We want to make sure that children in underserved areas have brand-new athletic shoes,” said Debra Moton with Shoes That Fit. “We want to make sure that they have those so they can run, jump, play and feel confident.”

Moton said, for lots of kids, new shoes are a luxury their families can’t afford. Having a pair can ease kids’ anxiety about not fitting in.

“You might see some Nikes and some Jordans and some New Balance, you know, those shoes that are on the shelves that are, you know, more expensive. But that’s the goal,” said Moton. “We want to make them feel like they belong and to feel proud of what they have on.”

Shoes That Fit is always taking donations to buy more shoes for kids. You can donate here.
