LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A Las Vegas local and law enforcement veteran is training thousands of women across the country and the world with a critical mission: helping more women officers work undercover.

Jenn Benjamins founded Covert Blue, LLC after more than two decades working for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Benjamins worked as a sergeant in VICE, eventually moving to various high-level undercover units to tackle guns, drugs and prostitution networks.

Benjamins used her decades of experience to fill a critical gap in training: helping women lead investigations and stay safe in dangerous scenarios.

“I want to empower these women to feel like they can go and supervise the specialized units, like vice and narcotics, and have the tools to be able to do that,” Benjamins said.

FOX5 met Benjamins at Crime Con, a convention with experts from law enforcement and investigations nationwide. Benjamins is set to speak at a panel on Saturday.

Her advice for any woman who wants to work undercover?

“Ground fighting is like the number one thing. The mind stuff you can control. It’s when you come across that bad guy, and you may be in a fight in an undercover capacity, and now the fight’s on. You have to hold your own until your guys come in and help you out,” she said.

Benjamins plans to release a book on her investigations in Las Vegas, with a release planned for July 4.
