LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley accepted a Stanley Cup Final bet with Raleigh Mayor Janet Cowell over the matchup between the Las Vegas Golden Knights and the Carolina Hurricanes.
Cowell initiated the wager in a video posted from Raleigh City Hall, announcing the bet on the first day of Atlantic hurricane season.

“Here in Raleigh, it is always hurricane season,” Cowell said. “And we are so excited that the Carolina Hurricanes are in the Stanley Cup finals and will be playing Vegas.”
Cowell said she was in Raleigh in 2006 when the Hurricanes last won a championship.
Under the terms of the bet, if the Hurricanes win, Berkley will send Cowell a sequined Hurricanes jersey. If the Golden Knights win, Cowell will send barbecue to Las Vegas.
Berkley responded with her own video accepting the challenge.
“Let’s see how the Hurricanes do when they really come in contact with a hurricane of the Las Vegas Golden Knights,” Berkley said.
Berkley said the terms also include the losing mayor wearing the winning team’s jersey at their city council meeting. She added that if the Golden Knights lose, she would send a Las Vegas gift basket.
Berkley said the two mayors know each other from mayoral programs they have participated in together.
“If I were you, I would never bet against Vegas,” Berkley said.
