NYE COUNTY (FOX5) — The Nye County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about two phone scams reported in the community in recent days.
Scam #1: “Nye Jail” Money Scam
Authorities say residents are getting calls claiming someone from the “Nye Jail” needs money added to an account.
The caller provides a phone number to send funds, but that number is not connected to the Nye County Detention Center.
Officials warn that this is a scam.

Scam #2: Fake Bank Fraud Calls
Another scam officials are warning about involves criminals spoofing local bank phone numbers, making caller ID display the bank’s name.
They claim there are suspicious charges on your debit or credit card and ask for your banking information.
Officials urge residents not to provide any personal or banking information. Residents should hang up and call their banks using the number on the back of the card to confirm account status.
Reminders
- Never give personal or financial information to unexpected callers.
- Caller ID can be faked.
- If unsure, hang up and contact the organization using a trusted number.
