LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Bally’s executives discussed a timeline for employees, demolition and construction as the Oakland A’s transition to Las Vegas.
Ameet Patel, senior vice president and western regional manager for Bally’s said they are providing ways for current employees to find further employment ahead of the casino and hotel’s closure on April 2 of this year.
“Pretty historic week coming ahead of us,” he said during a meeting with the Nevada Gaming Control Board Wednesday.
Patel said they plan to keep their employees until the closing date. However, there will be job fairs, some only for Tropicana employees, throughout March. He said about 26% of the workforce has stayed with the Tropicana for 20 years or more.
He said for offers to continue employment, they have partnered with competitors on the Strip. There is also a job fair this Friday with county commissioners also helping. He told the board that there will be a job fair later this month only for Tropicana employees. 20 employers are expected to attend and they represent opportunities within downtown, off and on the Strip.
Marcus Glover, executive vice president and chief financial officer, discussed a timeline after the April 2 closure. He said the site is expected to be ready to hand over to the A’s by April 2025.
“It was a little serendipitous that they released the renderings,” he said.
Glover said there are collective conversations between the A’s and stakeholders to celebrate the Tropicana during the demolition, but nothing has yet to be confirmed.
