LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A driver died Saturday morning after a collision at the intersection of E. Tropicana Avenue and Tamarus Street, marking the 54th traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction this year.

The collision occurred at approximately 7:03 a.m. on June 13.

Evidence at the scene, witness statements and video surveillance indicated a 2021 Dodge Charger was traveling eastbound on E. Tropicana Avenue approaching a red traffic signal at the intersection with Tamarus Street.

A 2003 Toyota Camry was traveling northbound on Tamarus Street before turning left onto E. Tropicana Avenue with a green traffic signal.

The driver of the Dodge Charger failed to stop at the red traffic signal while entering the intersection. The front right of the Dodge Charger struck the front left of the Toyota Camry. Both vehicles were redirected and came to rest in the roadway.

The driver of the Dodge Charger fled the collision scene on foot without checking on injuries, giving information, or calling the police.

Medical personnel transported the driver of the Toyota Camry to Sunrise Trauma. The driver succumbed to the injuries he sustained from the collision and was pronounced deceased by medical personnel at Sunrise Trauma.

The driver of the Dodge Charger was located and showed signs of impairment. He was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center for DUI resulting in death, duty to stop resulting in death, and reckless driving resulting in death.

The collision remains under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section.
