LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The WNBA will expand its regular season to 50 games beginning in 2027.

The league announced Wednesday, increasing the schedule from 44 games this season as interest in women’s basketball continues to rise.

“Demand for the WNBA has never been greater, and expanding to a 50-game regular season reflects the extraordinary momentum we are seeing across the league,” WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert said in a statement. She said the move is aimed at growing the game and creating more opportunities for fans to watch the league’s top players.

The league said additional details about the 2027 schedule, including the format and key dates, will be announced later.
