LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Las Vegas police on Monday released new details about a June 18 officer-involved shooting that followed a stolen vehicle pursuit and ended with a suspect dead in North Las Vegas.
Police said the incident happened just after 5:30 p.m. when LVMPD’s Fusion Watch team received an automated license plate reader alert for a stolen vehicle near Flamingo Road and Linq Lane. A drone was launched, and officers were dispatched, according to LVMPD Assistant Sheriff Dori Koren.
Koren explained the vehicle was later spotted near Spring Mountain Road and I-15.
Officers attempted a traffic stop, but police said the driver fled at a high rate of speed during rush hour. A pursuit was authorized, and Koren said the suspect drove recklessly, at times on the wrong side of the road, creating a danger to the public. Police said the pursuit continued for about 4 miles, where it was involved in multiple crashes.
Koren said the vehicle eventually stopped in the 500 block of Miller Avenue. Three people ran from the car, and two were taken into custody without incident, police said.
The driver, identified by police as Shane Hansen, 53, ran toward a nearby mobile home, LVMPD Officials said. Officers located him behind the mobile home with the assistance of LVMPD’s air unit.

During the initial encounter, one officer saw Hansen drop a firearm and quickly pick it up, LVMPD said.

Police said he was repeatedly ordered to drop the weapon but refused, and officers say they later saw him raise the gun toward them.
At that point, officers fired, striking Hansen multiple times, Assistant Sheriff Koren said.

Medical personnel responded, but Hansen was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said he would have faced charges including assault with a deadly weapon on a protected person, resisting arrest with a firearm, kidnapping, possession of a stolen vehicle, felony evading and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person had he survived.
LVMPD identified the officers involved as David Plascencia, 33, and Steven McIntire, 37. Plascencia has been with LVMPD since 2017 and is assigned to the Convention Center Area Command in the Tourist Safety Division, police said. He fired four rounds, according to LVMPD officials.
McIntire has been with LVMPD since 2022 and is assigned to the Mobile Crime Saturation Team in the Tactical Operations Division, police said. He fired three rounds, Koren said.
Both officers were placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the department’s review, police said. The investigation remains ongoing.
