LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A man was killed last month in a hit-and-run while skateboarding in the Centennial Hills area, and his family is now calling for justice and road improvements following the arrest of a suspect.
Metro Police identified the victim as Ivan Aguilera, 29. His body was found on the east shoulder of the roadway near U.S. 95 and Oso Blanca, a few hundred feet from Mountain Ridge Park.

Tip leads to arrest
During the investigation, police said a citizen called in a tip reporting they had seen a Ram pickup parked at Oso Blanca the night before the discovery, with damage to the driver-side headlight and side-view mirror, and a man on his cellphone appearing to be in a panic.
Officers later located a vehicle matching that description covered with a car cover that appeared too small. After obtaining a warrant, investigators found evidence consistent with the tip. Elijah Malone was arrested in connection with the hit-and-run.
Family speaks out
Aguilera’s family set up banners and a memorial along the stretch of road where the incident occurred. His brother, Carlos Aguilera, said the loss has been devastating.
“You know, so, you know, it sucks that both lives are ruined. You know, I’m not going to get my brother,” Carlos Aguilera said. “I’m not going to be able to see him again.”
Cousin Loralie Mundo also expressed grief over the circumstances of his death.
“I was really upset. I was like, who would do something like that? Just leave a person like they’re a dog, you know?” Mundo said. “And the hospital is down the street. It’s literally four minutes.”
Carlos Aguilera said the guilt of not being there weighs on him.
“You know, all I can think through, through my head is my brother could have been on the ground calling out my name and me not being here to protect him. So, that’s what really destroys me,” he said.
Reward split among tipsters
A $10,000 reward was offered during the early stages of the investigation. Carlos Aguilera said he chose to split the money between the two people who provided tips.
“And so I decided to split the $10,000 reward to two people that, you know, I didn’t know that one of them was in need of it,” he said. “And the other person actually doesn’t have a car. So I was like, you know what, let me buy you a car. And I bought her a car just last night. And the other person, I sent them $5,000.”
The family is also raising money to support their father, who is dealing with grief while continuing to work.
Call for justice and road changes
Carlos Aguilera said he wants the case to result in meaningful consequences.
“What I want is justice to be served, you know, I don’t want this case to just be another case, a slap on the hand, because, you know, I want everyone to put themselves in my shoes,” he said.
The family is also calling for road improvements near the site of the incident, including walking paths, bike lanes, and lighting in the area.
Malone is scheduled to make his first court appearance Thursday morning at 9 a.m. at Las Vegas Justice Court. The family said they plan to attend.
