LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Canadian tourist accused of harming several flamingos at an exhibit on the Las Vegas Strip is due in court for an arraignment hearing Tuesday morning.
Mitchell Fairbarn, 33, is facing animal abuse charges related to an incident where he was caught on surveillance camera cornering several flamingos and grabbing one, which he brought back to his hotel room. He told police, according to an arrest report, that he brought it back to “pop its wing back in place”.

Upon his arrest, Fairbarn was asked to surrender his passport and has been barred from leaving the country until the case’s conclusion. He is also prohibited from visiting the Strip or making any contact with animals until further notice.
Attorneys representing Fairbarn have been negotiating his current house arrest situation, which are expected to continue during Tuesday’s hearing. His required appearances at previous hearings had been waived by a Las Vegas Justice Court judge, but it is unclear if the same will be allowed as his case moves to Clark County District Court.
Fairbarn is due in court at 8:30 a.m.
