Celebration event
The Just One Project marked the funding announcement Monday at the Westside Education and Training Center. More than 60 community members attended. During the event, 17 families shopped for fresh groceries on the bus and connected with six community resource vendors, including Southwest Gas, NV Energy, Employ NV, the Dolores Huerta Resource Center, Councilwoman Shondra Summers-Armstrong’s office, and The Just One Project. The event included a ribbon cutting and check presentation.
Remarks were delivered by Brooke Neubauer, founder and CEO of The Just One Project; Clark County District D Commissioner William McCurdy II; Las Vegas Ward 5 Councilwoman Shondra Summers-Armstrong; Scott Leedom, Southwest Gas director of regulatory and public affairs; Tony Sanchez, NV Energy executive vice president and board chair of the NV Energy Foundation; and Ruben Kihen, director of external affairs at the College of Southern Nevada.
What organizers said
“Today, with the generous support of Southwest Gas and NV Energy, we were able to keep this incredible bus on the road,” Neubauer said. “This bus is not just a grocery store on wheels, but a lifeline for families and seniors who don’t have easy access to affordable groceries, and often no grocery store at all.”
Leedom said the program addresses food access in neighborhoods identified as food deserts. “Southwest Gas is proud to work alongside The Just One Project, and the relaunch of Groceries on the Go directly reflects the power of partnership and the impact we can all make when we come together for our communities,” he said.
“Groceries on the Go is making a difference by helping families access fresh, nutritious food in a way that is both affordable and convenient, and we’re proud to continue our partnership with The Just One Project,” Sanchez said.
Groceries on the Go will continue making its 34 stops across Southern Nevada throughout the year.
