LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The city of Henderson and Purple Heart Veterans Chapter 730 will host a ceremony at Purple Heart Plaza in downtown Henderson on Friday, Aug. 7, in recognition of National Purple Heart Day.
Henderson City Council members and Purple Heart Veterans Chapter 730 representatives will join the community to honor those wounded or killed in combat and all those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Purple Heart Plaza is also marking its eighth anniversary in Henderson’s Water Street District. The plaza features the nationally recognized Purple Heart Monument and a donor brick program that offers the public an opportunity to purchase engraved pavers in honor of someone who has served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
The Purple Heart was created in 1782 and is awarded to any member of the U.S. Armed Forces who is wounded or killed in action. Henderson became Nevada’s first Purple Heart City in January 2014.
