LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The UNLV Skatin’ Rebels are preparing for the 2026-27 hockey season, with season tickets now on sale and a home opener scheduled for Oct. 9, assistant coach Nick Robone said.
Season outlook
Robone said the team is coming off a run to the national semifinals last season, following a 2025 national championship appearance. He said returning players have been in contact expressing eagerness to compete, and the program has added a freshman class.
“We have a very hungry team coming off the 2025 national championship run,” Robone said. “We fell a little short last year in the semifinals. And I look at all the guys coming back and, you know, they’re texting me how excited they are to be here.”

Tickets and game-day experience
Season tickets are priced at $15 and include a reserved seat for every home game at City National Arena. Robone said the venue sells out for home games and described the experience as extending beyond the game itself.
“City National is electric,” Robone said. “It’s so much more than just the hockey game. It’s the full experience.”
Schedule highlights
The Rebels will play a Scarlet and Gray intrasquad game Sept. 11 before the home opener Oct. 9. The 2026-27 schedule includes 20 home games and matchups against Oklahoma State, Arizona, Arizona State and Grand Canyon University. The program will also face the University of Nevada, Reno for the first time in program history, with the game currently scheduled for City National Arena.
Robone credited the program’s media team — which he said now numbers around 30 interns — with producing what he called one of the most unique schedule release videos in college hockey, filmed in partnership with Formula 1.
Golf classic and community fundraising
The 2026 UNLV Hockey Golf Classic is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 9, at The Arroyo Golf Club in Summerlin. Robone said the tournament typically draws around 150 golfers and generally sells out. Foursome sponsorships and other support options are available.
Robone noted the program operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with limited funding from the university, making community fundraising central to its operations.
“Everything we do is basically self-run through the program when it comes to fundraising,” Robone said.
