LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Las Vegas Raiders are partnering with local barbershops across the Las Vegas Valley to offer free haircuts and beautician services to youth through Aug. 9, with the goal of serving about 1,000 students before the new school year starts.

Fade ‘Em All Summerlin kicks things off
On Monday, Fade ‘Em All Barbershop’s Summerlin location hosted 100 students, with 10 barbers completing haircuts over four hours. Co-owners Robert Taylor and Michael Sanders said the Raiders first contacted the barbershop about seven years ago to join the program. Fade ‘Em All had already been offering free back-to-school haircuts for more than two decades before the partnership began.
“To be able to provide a service for the kids is always great,” Taylor said. “Kids are in need and we’re here to help that need. We’re here to make sure they look good and they’re out there and having a positive impact at school.”
Taylor said demand for the program has grown each year.
“The list gets filled up quick,” he said. “That’s a hundred — and that’s just a hundred students at this shop. The Raiders do multiple locations.”
‘Parents crying, kids smiling’
Taylor said the most meaningful moments come after each cut.
“Parents crying. Kids smiling,” he said. “When you look good, you feel good. When you feel good, you do amazing things. So we’re about that. We’re making sure that these kids feel good, first day of school. And that’s another — during this economy, that’s something that the parents have to worry about, is that bill. We’re taking care of that bill. And the Raiders are taking care of that bill. So now all they got to do is worry about school supplies, have a great first day of school.”
Robin Stumps, a grandmother of four who also cares for two foster children, said she saw the event on the news Monday morning and came immediately.
“Honey, this was a blessing,” Stumps said. “With five boys, yes — it’s pretty expensive to have their hair done.” She said she typically pays about $50 per haircut, putting the cost at $100 for two boys in a single visit.
How to participate
Additional barbershop locations across the valley are participating in the program through Aug. 9. The program is first come, first served.
