LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Las Vegas Raiders enter the preseason under new leadership, with a new head coach, new quarterbacks and new voices guiding the organization.
Tight end coach Luke Steckel said the change at the top has brought adjustments across the board.
“Every year it’s going to feel different and obviously when there is change at the top there is going to be different things in the way we do things; from the schedule to the offensive scheme, defensive scheme, but everyone around the league is optimistic at this point and we’re no different, we have a high standard and expectations for our group and it’s all about the team,” Steckel said.

Toward the end of practice Friday, a shoving and shouting match broke out between pass rusher Maxx Crosby and quarterback Kirk Cousins. Crosby hit Cousins’ arm twice, leading to a brief scuffle.
On Saturday, head coach Klint Kubiak held both players out of team drills after they violated practice expectations. Both returned to practice Monday, with Cousins turning in one of his stronger training camp performances.
Steckel praises Kubiak’s leadership
Steckel offered a strong endorsement of first-year head coach Klint Kubiak.
“In my opinion he has been qualified for this position for a long time now. You’d fool me telling me he’s a first year head coach. I know for me personally I’ve learned a tremendous amount from him, I think the players are responding to him. He’s the captain of this ship, he sets the tone for the culture of this building and he’s done a fantastic job so far,” Steckel said.
Steckel, who is in his third year with the franchise, also reflected on his time with the organization.
“I’ve been so blessed to be part of this franchise for three years, this is a special place, I’ve been able to work for four different teams in this league and there is just something different about wearing the Silver and Black. We’re building something special, there is a foundation, there is a history, there is a legacy and I’m excited to see what this chapter of the legacy looks like. I’m so grateful to be part of it,” Steckel said.
Public practice at Allegiant Stadium Tuesday
The Raiders will hold a public practice at Allegiant Stadium on Tuesday. Tickets are $5, with all proceeds benefiting the Raiders Foundation. It will be the final practice before the preseason opener Thursday.
