LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — New dash cam audio and body camera video played for a Clark County grand jury show the moments leading up to a shooting on Interstate 11 near downtown Las Vegas. The recordings were part of evidence prosecutors presented as they laid out their case against a Valley man accused of ramming a police officer with his SUV.
Dash cam captures warnings between troopers
Dash cam audio captured troopers warning each other about a driver heading toward an active crash scene on I-11.
“Justin, you got a reckless coming your way,” one trooper said.
“Reckless 4Runner, right there. He’s going to hit you, man,” another trooper said.
Prosecutors say Sean Shirazi was behind the wheel of the black Toyota 4Runner and was under the influence as he drove along I-11 near downtown Las Vegas on June 10 when he came upon a crash scene just north of 4th Street.
Nevada State Police say Shirazi rammed another vehicle before heading toward troopers working the crash. A trooper then opened fire on the 4Runner, killing passenger Corinne Barnes, 40, and leaving another driver hurt.
Shirazi is indicted on 15 counts, including second-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon on a first responder.
Body camera video shows moment of alleged crime
Troopers say Shirazi, 45, drove the 4Runner into the blocked-off crash scene on I-11 just north of 4th Street, pinning a trooper before driving off.
One trooper reported the incident in real time.
“Put the window down, now. Put the window down,” the trooper said.
“Don’t you do it,” the trooper said.
“Roll the window down,” the trooper said.
“Put it in park. Put the car in park,” the trooper said.
“Henry 61, 10, we got shots fired. Black Toyota 4Runner. Northbound, trying to hit me with the car,” the trooper said.
Prosecutors say that moment on body camera is central to the grand jury’s decision. They argue Shirazi was under the influence when he drove into the crash scene on I-11, pinning a trooper and hitting another driver.
He is charged with 15 felonies, including second-degree murder in the death of his passenger, Corinne Barnes, 40.
