LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Sen. Jacky Rosen joined leaders from local sports teams Wednesday to discuss the role sports play in Las Vegas tourism as the industry faces a slump.
Representatives from UFC, the Raiders, the Athletics and Formula One joined the discussion at UNLV Wednesday afternoon.
UNLV is adding an undergraduate degree in sports hospitality management this fall. The program is meant to address the needs of the valley’s growing sports industry.

Rosen said Las Vegas is becoming a premier sports destination, and that the region has to have the ecosystem to support it.
“Every week when I’m on my flights going back and forth to work, there are people here during football season and hockey season. They got caps on from every place around the country,” Rosen said. “Our students will stay, hopefully they’ll stay here, but they will go around the country or maybe around the world. These are great careers and we’re going to train them right here at home.”
Leaders say with the trajectory the valley is on, they believe they will be able to entice just about any sports team to put down roots in Las Vegas.
